So, he ordered a kayak from a
1967 kayak catalogue, and soon found himself
pulling it across the road leading to Ixtlan, and
over the desert to a large Agave plant.

From there, he peered out over the desert,
looking for water . . . looking for water. Failing to
see water with his Coyote eyes, he settled for a
mirage, instead. He was pleased.

The mirage, a beautiful lake, glistened in the
desert sunlight.

Now, Coyote, that Ol' Coyote, pulled his kayak
over the desert floor, towards the mirage. However,
the further the ol' fella walked, the further away
the mirage appeared.

"I'll fool that mirage," he said.

So, coyote tied a bandana over his eyes, and
continued pulling his kayak. Soon, he imagined
himself at the shore of Mirage Lake.

"Damn, but it's cool by the lake," he said. I'd
better keep this bandana over my eyes, or the
lake might move on me."

So, Coyote walked along the shore of the lake,
trying to find a good spot to put his kayak into
the water. Unbeknownst to Coyote, he had in
fact circled back to the crest of a steep slope,
overlooking the road to Ixtlan.

Coyote felt the breeze from off the waters of
Mirage Lake, touch the whiskers on his face.

"Damn, but it's cool by the lake, he said.

Now, Coyote, that Ol' Coyote, carefully positioned
the bandana that covered his eyes. He was still
wary of losing Mirage Lake. Then, he was off!
Paddling furiously, Coyote bounced and bounded
down the steep slope, where he could feel the
rush of wind and water against his face.

"Mirage Lake is pretty frigging rough, today,"
Coyote muttered, while trying to keep his breath.
"This is the last time I'll go kayaking without a life
jacket!"

Soon, the kayak came to rest against a bank of
sand, in a gully, near the large Agave plant.

"Geez," Coyote said, aloud, "I'm grounded".

Now, Coyote, that Ol' Coyote, removed the bandana
from over his eyes. He saw the bank of sand, the
gully, and the steep slope.

"Just as I suspected, the lake moved," he said.

So, he overturned his kayak and placed it against
large boulders on the north side of the gully.

"There," he said, "it'll make a good shelter for
rattlesnake". Then, he lay back against the boulders,
wiped the sweat from his brow, covered his face
with a large sombrero, and had a nap.

Catch ya'll later,
LaurieC
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

He
had discovered the ravine in a dream, thanks
to Spider Woman. She had woven her web
over the face of his dream, and then crawled
through it.

Now, Coyote respected Spider Woman - she
was wise beyond her years.

"Why don't you follow that ravine, Ol' Coyote?"
She said, staring at him. her eyes were large,
like two full moons.

So, Coyote followed the ravine.

He walked for seven hours until he noticed
something peculiar. "Why, I'm following my
footsteps!" He said, out loud. "See, where
that pebble was moved. Only the toe of a
Coyote would move a pebble in that fashion."

Coyote looked about the ravine, and said to
himself, "I must be lost?" He began to sing:

"I don't feel lost,
I don't feel lost,
I'm following my footsteps,
Oh sweet footsteps,
Oh joy, sweet footsteps,
I love my footsteps,
Look how I walk,
I am lost, I am lost...."

Now, Coyote, that Ol' Coyote, continued to
follow his footsteps, sniffing at the tracks, and
marvelling at his own scent.

"Is that how I smell?" He said, out loud. "It's a
wonder anyone comes near me," he chuckled.

Spider woman, for her part, was growing tired
of watching Coyote dancing about, singing,
and smelling his own tracks.

"I'm tired of the antics of that crazy Ol' Coyote,"
she mused. So, picking up her web from the
face of his dream, she crawled silently away.

The next thing that Coyote knew, he was on
the road to Ixtlan.

Many Blessings!
LaurieC
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

Ol' Coyote sat on the passenger side with
his arm out the window, so he could feel the desert air.
The ancient Lava Rock sat motionless in the rear of
the Chevy half-ton.

It took the Drunken Demon exactly three seconds to
seat the Lava Rock at a table to the far end of the
outdoor cafe.

Coyote marvelled. . . .

The Demon grinned, mischievously.

The Lava Rock nudged forward, in approval.

Ol' Coyote ordered seven cups of coffee. He poured
five of them over the ancient Lava Rock and asked
for refills.

The Drunken Demon marvelled. . . .

Ol' Coyote grinned, mischievously.

The Lava Rock nudged slightly forward, pleased to
be a rock.

And, then, in one micro-second, in that small space of
time between seconds, the Lava Rock transported
them back in time, to 6,221, B.C. It transported them
to a place near the present-day Hopi Mesas, where they
saw an old village, a very old village, and a young
volcano that suddenly exploded, throwing its firey ash
and lava into the sky.

They marvelled. . . .

They saw the residents of this ancient village, scatter
and run to save their lives, carrying a few valuables
with them.

And then. . . then, they saw the lava and dust cover that
village, hiding it even from the sight of present-day
archaeologists.

Ask the Hopi. . . ask the old ones, who know such
things, and they will tell you the same story.

But, that's not all. . . .

As the micro-second passed, as it slipped away, that
Coyote, that Ol' Coyote, found himself in the desert
with that ancient Lava Rock. The rock was in the same
position, and in the exact spot, as when they first met.

Coyote marvelled at the Lava Rock, and the ten cups
of coffee it had absorbed.

The Lava Rock fell asleep.

In the distance, Coyote saw the dust, and out of that
dust came the 1959 Chevy Apache half-ton. It stopped
fifty yards in front of Coyote. The door opened. Then,
he noticed the long, dark hair, and how it moved to the
rhythm of the southwest breeze.

She beckoned him to join her -- to drive deep into
desert country.

Maria's deep, dark eyes, reflected light from the desert
sky.

Her flesh resembled the colour of lava rock. It balanced
with the land itself.

For a moment, Ol Coyote placed his hand on the warm
surface of the Lava Rock. He could feel life in a gentle
sleep.

He left that place.

Now, Coyote, that Ol' Coyote, sped across the desert
in a 1959 Chevy Apache half-ton, with Maria at the wheel.
He held his arm out the window, so he could feel the
desert air.

Maria grinned, mischievously. . . .

Good medicine always!
LaurieC ;)
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

As he walked along,
he saw a small area of dust near the horizon.

Ol' Coyote sat on a large piece of Ancient Lava Rock,
that was watching the dust.

"I'll watch the dust with you," Coyote said, tapping
the rock with his left index finger. As they watched
the dust, the Lava Rock felt compelled to move, ever
so slightly.

"Yeah," I know, Coyote replied. The rock nudged
forward, again.

"That's my guess, too," Coyote whispered. He
stirred, stood on the rock, and peered into the dust.
"See, it's larger now -- seems to be coming straight
at us."

The Lava Rock nudged slightly to the left.

"Don't mind if I do," Coyote replied, lifting a side of
the rock to extract a flask of mescal. He downed a
triple shot of the stuff, quivered, shook, and sprang
to his feet, dancing about the Ancient Lava Rock,
singing, "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling".

The Lava Rock nudged slightly to the right.

Coyote returned the mescal to its shallow cavern,
beneath the rock.

The Lava Rock smiled as rocks do from time to time.
"Wake me when next you visit," it said, falling
asleep.

"Wait," Coyote replied, "would you like to travel to
Ixtlan for coffee?"

"Well . . . I haven't had coffee in . . . in . . . well,
I remember drinking something five thousand years
ago. Do you suppose it was coffee?"

Ol' Coyote thought for a moment . . .

"It was probably a Hopi or Anasazi brew, or, a gift
from the Mayans."

"Do they serve coffee to Lava Rocks at the market
in Ixtlan?"

Ol' Coyote thought for a second moment . . .

"I expect so. They served coffee to Rattlesnake
when we visited the market in 2001."

"That's very special. Will you carry me to Ixtlan,
Coyote? I move slowly. "

"We'll hitch a ride."

"Hitch a ride?"

"Certainly. I'll stand on you and stick out my thumb,
in this fashion."

Now, Coyote, that Ol' Coyote, stood on the Lava Rock
in a classic hitchhiking pose -- you can just imagine
what that was like. You see, the ol' fella had seen
a 1959 Chevy Apache half-ton come barrelling out of
the dust cloud. The Chevy came straight for them,
until it veered off to Coyote's right, stopping near
the Lava Rock.

The Lava Rock nudged itself forward -- to Coyote
vision, it moved two centimetres.

"Who the hell are you?" Coyote asked the little red
man, behind the wheel.

"I'm the Drunken Demon."

"Oh, how interesting." Coyote tapped the Lava Rock
with his right foot. The Rock smiled.

Now, that little red man, that Drunken Demon, smiled
back, while wiping his brow, saying, "Geez, it's hot
as hell, here!"

"We're on our way to Ixtlan for a cup of coffee.
That's why I flagged you down," Coyote said.

"Well, Maria sensed you were out here in the desert.
That's why she loaned me her truck. Besides, I'm also
looking for a garden of blue corn. Have you seen the
blue corn? Did you say, 'we'? I don't see anyone
else?"

Ol' Coyote thought for a third moment . . .

"You should go to the high desert country for the blue
corn." Then, he continued, "Lava Rock and I are having
coffee together."

The Lava Rock nudged backwards by two centimetres.

"What did it say?" The Demon asked.

"It told us to get our asses in gear, and place it
on the truck box."

"How're we gonna place such a large rock on the
truck box?" The Demon questioned.

"Well, you're a Demon -- that should be a simple
task for you," Coyote said.

"Yeah, I'd like to help, but I'm useless when I'm
sober," the Demon said, sobbing.

Ol' Coyote winked,
Ol, Coyote blinked,
Ol' Coyote grabbed the mescal
from the kitchen sink.

(Sorry. I'm not serious. I only wrote that because
it rhymes, somewhat. Let's try that again.)

Ol' Coyote winked. Ol' Coyote blinked. Ol' Coyote
lifted one side of the Lava Rock to retrieve the
mescal. He handed it to the Drunken Demon.

The Demon smiled. "Geez, I haven't had mescal
since yesterday!"

He emptied the flask, danced an Irish jig, stood
on his head, and threw the Lava Rock on the truck
box.

"Careful, I'm an Ancient Lava Rock." It said.

Now, that 1959 Chevy Apache half-ton, Maria's
Chevy Apache half-ton, made a sharp turn to the
south and headed off in the general direction of
Ixtlan. Soon, it was a small area of dust near the
horizon.

To be continued . . . .

LaurieC
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

He was thinking about mescal,
coffee beans, and women with hats.

"Now, that's a strange scene, isn't it?"

"What's strange?" Coyote said. He looked
about, trying to discern the source of the
comment.

"Why, the women with hats, of course."

Coyote scanned the bushes, rocks, and desert
terrain until he saw Rattlesnake sunning himself
near a group of Yucca plants.

"It was just a thought. I'm sorry to disturb you."

"That's allowed. But, why on earth would twelve
women be walking about the desert wearing
blue and green hats? Did they buy the hats at
the market in Ixtlan? I doubt whether there are
twelve blue and green hats in all of Ixtlan."

"It was just a thought. . ."

"Were you drinking mescal, Coyote?"

"I was thinking about mescal. "

"Indeed, you do. Tell me about it, please."

"The hats were covered in turquoise. Blue and
green turquoise. He
was contemplating his purpose in life and just what it
meant to be a Coyote, living and wandering about
over Mother Earth.

Pretty soon Crow came along and saw Coyote sitting
on the moss covered log.

"What ya doing, Coyote?"

"I'm sitting on this mossy log contemplating my purpose
in life."

"Your purpose in life?"

"Yes, indeed, Crow."

"Why don't you content yourself with being a Coyote and
wander about the landscape?"

"Is it that simple?"

"Certainly. Look at me. I fly about the landscape, doing
Crow things. You're making life too complicated."

"Perhaps. But, I'm helping Laurie. You see, he's writing
this blog post. I'm simply sitting here, going along with
the word play...."

"Where is he, Coyote . . . I mean, this Laurie fella?"

"Oh, he's sitting by his computer, typing, I suppose."

"Hi Laurie! Does he hear me?"

"Oh yes, Crow, he hears you, alright. Look, why don't
you fly to Tim Horton's and get me a coffee?"

"Of course, Coyote. What do you want in your coffee?"

"Well, Crow, I'll take it black."

"Last night I was lucky, Coyote . . . I went to Tim's and
found half a cup of Expresso and two Timbits!"

Now, Coyote, that Ol' Coyote sat on that mossy log,
figuring his next move, when Crow returned.

"I hope you know it was difficult carrying this coffee in
my beak those eight miles."

"Oh, I suppose, but, isn't that what crows do . . . you
know, carry things about the landscape?"

"I know what you're saying . . . that's the only reason
I could do it." Then, Crow said, "And, look, I stopped
at MacDonald's and got you three french fries!"

How on earth did you manage to carry both the coffee
and french fries?"

"Oh, I swallowed the french fries, and regurgitated
them just for you."

"What?"

"I regurgitated the french fries for you, Coyote."

"Thank you, Crow. I truly appreciate what you've
done, but I can't stomach regurgitated food. I just
can't seem to appreciate the process."

"Very well, Coyote. To be truthful, I do want them
for myself. I love ketchup!"

"Yes, well, don't make a mess on the mossy log."

"Oh no, Coyote, no, I'll just hang out in this hemlock
tree. Oh, by the way, did you roll up the rim?"

"What?"

"Well, Coyote, where have you been all this time? If
you roll up the rim on a Tim's coffee cup, you can
win a prize!"

"By gad, Crow, you're smart today. Look, look, I've
won a . . . a . . . chocolate chip cookie!"

"Way to go, Ol' Man Coyote!"

"Will you go for the cookie, Crow? I'll give you a bite
of it."

"Well, you know, Coyote, that's sixteen miles return,
as I fly . . . er, as the crow flies. That a lot of miles
for a bite of cookie."

"Can't you steal a cookie for yourself? The cops would
never catch you, Crow."

"Well, you do have a point. Besides, there's a waitress
there, with a nice set of . . . well . . . I do like
hovering above her....

"Ah, c'mon Crow, say it! Breasts! Breasts! Well, don't
stare at me with your beak open . . . I won't say it a
third time."

"Now, Coyote, you're not polite. . ."

"Well, as you say, I am a Coyote. . . . Besides, the
coffee's pretty strong. Geez, I do wish I had a drink of
tequila. I think I left my jugs in the southwest."

"Ah yes, 'jugs,' Coyote . . . that's what I was trying
to say...."

"What?"

"You know, the waitress. . . ."

"Well, then, go and bring back my chocolate chip cookie.
I'm dying for chocolate right about now."

Now, Coyote, that Ol' Coyote, sat on that mossy log,
thinking about tequila and mescal, when Crow returned.

"Look, Coyote, I've got two chocolate chip cookies!"

"You did well, Crow . What did you do, steal the second
cookie?"

"Oh no, Coyote . . . I think that waitress likes me. I kept
hovering above her and she gave me two cookies. She thinks
I'm cute, Coyote!"

"Well, Crow, since you got my cookie, I have to say that,
yes, I imagine someone, somewhere, would think you're
cute."

"Oh, I almost forgot. . . she's wearing black lingerie. You
know how I love black things, Coyote!"

"Have you considered moving your nest to a light pole,
next to Tim Horton's? I really think you should move there,
Crow."

"Listen, Coyote, is Laurie writing this down? I mean, will
someone read this stuff?"

"Of course, Crow. Now, perhaps you could fly to the liquor
store and get me a bottle of mescal. I have a friend who
works there. I think she'll give it to you. If you're lucky,
she'll put it on her own tab."

"Really! My gad, Coyote, you do have friends!"

"Of course, Crow. I also have a womanfriend who makes
cinnamon rolls. Do you enjoy cinnamon rolls, Crow?

"Oh, you gotta love cinnamon anything, Coyote!"

"Well, perhaps you'll fly to Halifax tomorrow and bring me
back one of her fresh baked rolls. You can always stop
for coffee along the way. It's only about one hundred and
twenty miles, return, as you fly."

"That's a long way to fly for a cinnamon roll, Coyote."

"Yes, I suppose. . . .

"So, anyhow, Coyote, about the black lingerie. . ."

"Wait. Wait Crow. We really have to save that for another
day . . . save that for the mescal, the tequila, the
sunshine, and the like.

Very well, Coyote. It is rather overcast now, and the night
is approaching fast. Have a good day, Coyote."

"Have a good day, Crow.

Have a good day,
LaurieC
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

He figured this was correct, as its
light illuminated only the crest of the butte.

Still, this wasn't obvious to the average observer.
Only Coyote eyes and, perhaps, those of crow or
raven, could discriminate between the light of
individual stars.

As Coyote approached the butte, he saw the
shadow from a Lotus flower. The shadow was faint,
being reflected by starlight alone.

Ol' Coyote marvelled at the perfect Lotus shadow
outlined over the desert floor.

"I must follow the shadow to the Lotus flower,"
he said, aloud.

"I must follow the shadow to the Lotus flower,"
his voice echoed.

"Be quiet, Echo, I don't want my words repeated,"
Coyote said, grinning.

"Be quiet, Coyote, I don't want my words repeated,"
came the reply.

"Wait! Something's not quite right here?" Coyote
said.

"Wait! Something's not quite right here?" came the
echo.

Ol' Coyote pulled a small flask of mescal from his
jacket pocket, and gulped it down. "There," he
thought, "now, perhaps things will be clearer."

Coyote moved closer to the butte, but the lotus
shadow had disappeared.

"The shadow's gone. It must have been an anomaly."

"The shadow's gone. It must have been an anomaly,"
came the reply. "And, by the way, get the hell off
my rattle, before I bite you!"

Now, Ol' Coyote, that Ol' man Coyote, said to
himself, "I'm pretty sure I didn't say that." He
looked at the empty mescal flask, and felt his
forehead -- "potent stuff," he said, under his
breath.

"Please, get the hell off my rattle!" the voice
said again.

Coyote stepped forward.

"That's better."

"What's better?" Coyote said. Then, looking
around, he spotted Rattlesnake in strike position,
grinning.

Rattlesnake wore a Lotus flower hat.

"Oh, for land's sake, how does your Lotus flower
hat make such a perfect shadow, Mr. Rattlesnake?"

"It required some calculations, Mr. Coyote."

"Indeed, so. You tricked the trickster, Mr.
Rattlesnake."

"Indeed."

"Did you know that the North Star is directly
above that large butte, tonight?"

"It never dawned on me. How could you tell?"

"I saw its light on the crest of the butte, before
those thunder clouds arrived."

"Ah yes, Coyote eyesight. . . ."

Just then, there was a sharp flash of lightning,
and a clap of thunder. Then, the rain came. Oh yes,
rain. . . such heavy rain.

Rattlesnake scurried away to hide from flash floods.

Coyote found a small opening in the west side of
the butte, and crawled inside.

Ol' Coyote fell asleep, and dreamed of mescal. He
saw mescal walking in the rain. He saw himself as
a shadow behind the mescal. He laughed. Yes, as a
shadow, he laughed. How strange. . . . Yet, he was
conscious of himself curled up inside that small
cave . . . that butte. He felt contented that he
was safe and warm.

Walking behind mescal, Ol' Coyote felt the rain
and heard it hitting the desert floor.

Deep inside, there was joy.

Good medicine always,
LaurieC
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

The tiny figure said,
under its breath.

Coyote blinked a second time.

The tiny figure reached inside a leather bag, and
pulled out the smallest accordion in the world.

Coyote laughed, saying, "That's got to be the
smallest accordion in the world!"

"That's right!" The tiny figure said. "How could you
tell?"

Coyote laughed again. "Well, it's downright small,"
he told the tiny figure. "Where are you from?"

"Newfoundland. Where are you from?"

"Well, at the moment I live near Ixtlan."

"How far is that from Corner Brook?"

"Corner Brook, Newfoundland?" Coyote asked.

"Yes, that's the only Corner Brook I know."

"Oh, perhaps two thousand miles." Coyote replied.

"Will this stream take me to Ixtlan?"

"I hardly think so."

"Oh well, can I play you a tune?"

"Certainly."

"Do you know, 'Maple Sugar'?"

"The old fiddle tune! The tiny figure
asked.

"No, not in this life time."

Coyote blinked. The tiny figure vanished.

On the breeze, from somewhere downstream, he
heard that accordian. He listened to the sweet
rendition of 'Maple Sugar'. A tear formed in the
inner corner of his left eye. The tear contained
traces of an old memory. Coyote thought, "Where
did that come from?"

Finally, the tune faded away, replaced by a soft
breeze through large-toothed aspen leaves.

Now Coyote, that Ol' Coyote, filled his pipe with
labrador tea leaves. He smoked that pipe.

Bine-bye he fell asleep against the trunk of a
black spruce tree. He dreamed. Besides, everything in the desert
knows Maria."

"Yes, that's so, Mr. Donkey."

"What takes you to Ixtlan, Mr. Coyote?"

"Oh, it's just some place to go. I often find that
when I walk, I have a destination; although, often, I
walk just for the sake of the desert."

"Is there something else?"

"What do you mean, Mr. Donkey?"

"Well, your eyes tell me there's something else."

"Well, yes, of course, there is something else. I
suppose it can't hurt to tell you, Mr. Donkey."

"It can't hurt, no."

"Love."

"Love?"

"Yes, love.

"It can't hurt to love, Mr. Coyote."

"I'm glad you think so, Mr. Donkey. You see, when
I walk in the desert, I grow thirsty, and I quench my
thirst with the juice from a certain cactus. . ."

"Which cactus?"

"The nameless cactus."

"Oh, yes, that one."

"As I was saying, I quench my thirst with the juice
from a certain cactus . . . the nameless cactus . . .
and then I'll find a shady place where I can nap.

"When I nap, I dream -- I always dream, when I
nap. Do you dream, Mr. Donkey?"

"Yes, I dream."

"Good, Mr. Donkey. Good. It's nice to dream.

"What do you dream about, Mr. Coyote?"

"Agave. Yes, large agave -- but, I also dream of
women. In fact, mostly, I dream of women. Lately,
I dream of them all the time. We kiss, such soft,
gentle kisses. And, then, I tongue nipples
until they are taut. Slow movements over and
around each nipple -- they are so beautiful and
brown. At least, I think they're brown?

"What do you mean, you think they're brown?"

"Well, in my dream, I'm wearing sunglasses. So,
how can I be certain of the colour?"

"You can't."

"When I tell this story to Maria, she winks."

"Is she jealous?"

"No, Mr. Donkey."

"What does she say?"

"Nothing. Instead, we drive through desert country
in her old Chevy half-ton. We make clouds of dust
that remain stationary in the hot desert atmosphere.
I have seen them there, two days later. She takes
me to an oasis, where we strip and walk naked
into the water. When we are soaking wet, we lie
on a blanket where I do exactly what I did in the
dream.

"Fascinating."

"Yes, fascinating. Her nipples are like those of
the woman in the dream. However, Maria closes her
eyes when I caress her nipples. Often, she'll sing
softly in a foreign language."

"What language?"

"I don't know. It's a language she learned from the
desert. The desert is like that . . . it will teach
you things."

"True."

"Yes, it will teach you things. And, oh yes, when
she sings in her soft voice, I gently kiss her lips,
and her song is suddenly everywhere like cosmic
music, and I am lost . . . totally lost . . . a soul
wandering in the desert."

"How beautiful . . ."

"Yes, and then something magical happens . . ."

"Magical?"

"Quite magical. You see, suddenly, I feel a warmth,
and the music intensifies, although, somewhere in
the background I can hear her soft voice. . . .
that's when I know I've entered her. It feels so
good, Mr. Donkey, so very good. Yet, all the time
this song is building, while stars and lights flash
in my brain, my mind, and my soul, until we are
both swept away in the rush of it all."

"Of course."

"It all happens so quickly. When I come to my senses,
we are in Maria's bed. It's a large bed, and we are
drinking tequila through long straws. I can't tell you
where she found such long straws. But, I'm rambling,
Mr. Donkey."

"Well, that's okay, but I have to be going. You see,
we missed the bus."

"Yes, that's right. And I'm off to Ixtlan."

"Good day, Mr. Coyote."

"Good day, Mr. Donkey."

Good day,
LaurieC ;)
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

It simply vanished.

I even back-tracked, trying to locate where I had
misplaced my papers, but to no avail. I still feel it will
show up, perhaps, in a day or so. But, on the other
hand, I've searched most places, so it's difficult to
imagine how it might return to me?

So, I'll let it go from my mind. I do feel satisfaction.
It was a terrific creative writing exercise! Coyote
thinks that's cool, and then he learns the
whole story.

You see, at this point, Rattlesnake has sought
shelter from the afternoon desert sun. He slithers
to a small cavern near Coyote, and notices the
Trickster's fascination with the Agave.

"There's something quite different about that
old Agave, Mr. Coyote."

"What's that Mr. Rattlesnake?"

"Why, the Agave has evolved. Don't you see,
it distills its own juice." That's why humans are
drunk on the Myths of Creation."

Rattlesnake grins as he sees bells and whistles
going off in Coyote's brain. "I think he's figured
it out," he mutters, before dozing off to a dream.

"Now, Coyote, that Ol' Coyote,
rushes to the Euphrates,
diving into its precious waters.

"Oh, Sweet Jesus, what a Baptism!" he shouts.
"The Euphrates is pure mescal. Is there any
wonder Adam sinned!"

Oh, one more thing -- before you become
hysterical and rush off to the Euphrates,
you gotta know, this is a vision. . . .

It's the desert, the sun, the blurred horizon,
the shimmering waves of heat, together with a
little coyote consciousness. . . .

Oh yes, that's what it is.

That's how he was able to figure it out.

See ya!

Love,
LaurieC
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

Ol' Coyote's back. . . .

Greetings!

Well, you know, the last time I posted, I mentioned
lying on a pillow of "rose petals". You have to hand it
to Maria, how many women would give their lover a
pillow of rose petals?

Now, if you've never lain on rose petals, you can't
begin to imagine the amazing scent -- Maria's petals
are always scented. And, they will make you dream,
wonderful dreams of mounds and valleys, and
caverns, and smooth, silk-like landscapes.

It it were possible to enter that dream, that landscape,
for days at a time, you would be tempted to stay, to
give up earthly life, for such is the strength of the rose.

But, I didn't want to go there. I mean, I was saving
that topic for another post.

In any event, when Ol' Coyote woke from his sleep,
and brushed the rose petals from his hair, he felt
thirsty for spring water. So, gathering a few things
in a knapsack, he headed off into desert country,
in the direction of ancient Anasazi dwellings.

Now, Coyote was smart, because he knew there
were springs that had served the Anasazi for
thousands of years. So, he was soon able to satisfy
his thirst, and to splash the water over his hairy body.
What a treat! You should have seen him dancing
about that ancient spring.

This makes one think about basic, natural things,
and the joy that can be experienced from them.

I'll be back soon,
LaurieC
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

Is she
still in the Gaspe', or also making her
way to Toronto?

Well, now, moving on . . .

Guess what . . . I met a beautiful Ukranian
Princess. So, Ol'Coyote's been communing
with this Princess from a faraway land. ;)

Meanwhile, the mythical Maria, that lovely
black haired, black eyed, medicine woman,
has a special treat for Ol' Coyote. But,
what is it? She's not speaking -- she's in
that magical mood where she communicates
everything through her eyes.

While Coyote, he sits in the shade of a
shallow cave, on a rock ledge, dreaming
in slow motion of Maria, and of a Ukranian
Princess, while the hot desert sun
makes the horizon quiver in pinks and
purples and soft yellow.

And then there is mescal. Coyote has
spoken to mescal, while it has spoken
back in a rasping low voice, yet leaving
the next instance, travelling deep into
the horizon -- that soft yellow part
of it.

Ol' Coyote watches intently where mescal
walked -- watches intently, yes, but
even moments later, those mescal tracks
are covered by wind swipt sand.

So there he sits, the ol' fella, thinking
of Maria, of the Ukranian Princess, even of
Dora Cecilia in Saskatchewan.

Sleeping on a pillow of rose petals, Coyote
dreams . . . .

See ya,
LaurieC
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

I lost the sisters!

I don't know what to say -- Ol' Coyote's
looked high and low for the sisters, but
they've simply vanished! What do you
suppose happened to them?

It wouldn't be so bad, except what will I
do with all the bubble bath soap -- I have
three gallons of the stuff alongside the
bath tub! My gawd, this is the next thing
to an emergency!

Now, don't get me wrong, Maria loves
to take long, enticing baths, and it's
enough to drive a Coyote insane -- but,
I mean, three gallons is a lot of bubble
baths!

Well now, I've got news -- Ol' Coyote's
got his own "Wild Lingerie Store"! ;))
Can you believe it . . . The bathroom will fill with bubbles
tomorrow evening.

Yes, Ol' Coyote was up until 4:15 last night,
considering and planning things, and trying to
get a psychic sense of the sisters' location.
I finally put the lights out and dove under the
blankets, waking at 9 o'clock, somewhat
refreshed.

So, now, I must make this post, and scramble
upstairs to the blankets once again. The bubbles seem to enhance the
imagination. Of course, mescal helps as well --
a few sips of mescal, and the writer flourishes
in me.

Oh yes, about the sisters -- Coyote feels quite
strongly that they're in the Gaspe area of Quebec.
You see, as I mentioned in an earlier post, the
sisters are from that area of Quebec. If my feeling
is accurate, then they're on the move, east!

Ol' Coyote loves and respects those women.
But, he's a bit leary about the psychic power they
exude, when they get together. That's why there's
a cat and mouse game going on, and it's largely
carried out on the psychic level.

Now, back to the bubble bath. :) I'm using this new
bottle of "Olive Oil Forming Milk Bath". Imagine, it's
made with 100% extra virgin olive oil! Expensive
stuff, but you should see the bubbles -- there are
bubbles all over the place -- even outside the
bathroom all the way to the living room!

What a life. What would a person do without a
bubble bath?

I keep thinking of the sisters -- it would be nice to
share a bubble bath and a gallon of wine -- I might
even add wine to the bath water. ;) Yet, I wonder? I
mean, the three sisters together are a mighty
potent group!

Well, I must go now -- run through the bubbles to
my computer -- quickly make this post, and run
back again. Have to do it before the water cools.

In any event, I love you all!
LaurieC
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

They've threatened to come east and visit
Coyote.

Now, the reason he's watching them, is that they know
how much he loves taking relaxing bubble baths at all
hours of the night. So, they've pretty much decided to
come east and join Ol' Coyote in one large bubble bath
ceremony! And, by the way, they're bringing the bottles
of bubble bath with them.

If this happens, it could spell the end of the ol' fella, as
sharing a bubble bath with three beautiful women could
be a bit much. Mind you, he claims he could do it, as,
apparently, Maria is as wild and wonderful as three
women in one.

Well, there would seem to be some movement happening
out west, as one of the sisters has left Vancouver and is
moving east. What does this imply? It could imply that
those Metis women are intent on visiting the Eastern Gate,
and Nova Scotia could be in their sights!

I know this sounds wacky and mysterious at the same
time, but, hey, it's the life of Coyote. :)) So, stay tuned,
to see what happens!

Adios,
LaurieC
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

A deep lost --
the kind you don't recover from, soon.

So lost, in fact, that you feel yourself drifting in
space, or, perhaps, over a desert landscape.

The freaky thing about it all, is that the desert
becomes her skin, and you drift over her body
until it darn near drives you insane . . . until you
can't stand the temptation any longer . . . .

Then, just when you think you've lost your mind,
you feel a warm, soft, gentle breeze, and you
realize it's her breath in your ears, where it
tickles, tickles, tickles -- gawd darn, does it
ever tickle!

Suddenly, you drift down into a deep valley,
where you dive head-first into a river, and drift
deep inside her. I'm telling
you, this is gonna be really good! Well, if it
happens . . . .

Mind you, it'll be great reading for women, too . . .
if it happens.

Now, you might ask, "How can Ol' Coyote write
such a book when his own record on long term
relationships has been spotty at best?" Well,
that's just his point;) You see, he figures he can
tell men what not to do -- you know, don't repeat
my mistakes, for gosh sakes! And, as I say, this
could be juicy reading for women . . . . :))

Besides, he figures he's gotta leave one good
thing to the world -- I mean, it might be too late
for Coyote, but not for other men. In any event,
I'll keep you posted.

Well, now, I must saunter back to my cave . . .
maybe I'll get up early, head for the ocean, and
collect some sea glass.

Here's a coyote hug,
LaurieC
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

I'm back! You Gotta Love that Sea Glass!

Hi,

Oh my, what a nice, cool, sunny day we enjoyed here
in Nova Scotia. I love it! Makes me want to take a long
holiday from the desert country.

Ol' Coyote went to the ocean, recently, to collect sea
glass for Maria. Actually, he went there to collect the
glass for one of two women who, together, represent
his ideal woman, Maria. He sent the glass to New
Hampshire.

I think she loved it.

I felt inspired to collect the glass -- it seemed to be
the right thing to do. Besides, I love New England
women. ;) It's true! I've dated four women from New
England and they were/are all wonderful people.

Now, the other woman who represents Maria is a
beautiful Colombian woman -- her eyes are sooo
beautiful, and she is such a bubbly person! I met
her thirty-five years ago! But, then, we lost contact for
three decades, until we met up again in Edmonton,
Alberta, three years ago. It was fantastic! We travelled
together for a week, and hiked in the Canadian
Rockies.

Such is the life of Ol' Coyote:))

So, what now? More, sea glass, perhaps? I think
I should send several pounds of it to New Hampshire.
I have to impress that woman . . . . I'm also thinking
of writing a song . . . even singing it . . . oh yes, singing
it! I'm gonna burn it to a CD and send it along to her.

In reality, I should look for a local woman . . . put my
profile on "Plenty of Fish," or whatever the heck it's
called. I wonder if I'd require "bait" of some kind --
seems only reasonable. Of course, I'm very photogenic,
so that might be all the bait that's required?

I'm rambling. It's time to get out of here. Perhaps I'll
go some place, have a glass of mescal, and dream
of Maria. Oh yes, dream of Maria driving along a
dusty desert road in her old half ton Chevy. Ahh, yes,
Maria . . . .

Enjoy the evening. Enjoy the stars, the moon . . . .

LaurieC
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

I'm
referring to a loving, romantic attraction, in this instance.
The kind of attraction that says, "Yeah, I could have a
relationship with this person".

Ol' Coyote thinks it boils down to a play of energies that
happen on a very subtle level. For instance, the meeting
of energies surrounding bodies on the so-called physical
level. Energies merge when people stand near each
other -- then, there are other mental and spiritual forces
at work, as well. There may even be energies tracing
relationships back through several incarnations. Perhaps,
somewhere down the road, quantum physics can tie
everything together and explain the energy of relationships
in scientific terms -- but, don't bet on it.

In my last post, I told you that I fell in love "three times".
I'm speaking mostly of the attraction alluded to in the
above paragraphs. It's fantastic to feel that attraction, and
I'm sure most of you agree on this point. Also, I must
tell you that I hugged one of those three women, seven
times:)) We couldn't get enough hugs -- we joked, and
made excuses that we hadn't hugged.

So, now, I close my eyes to visualize those three women,
and I consider many things about them. Perhaps I'll talk
about this in my next post. For now, I think I'll just fanticise
for a while -- what a great way to fall asleep tonight;)

Adios!
LaurieC
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

Sometimes the
desert gets so hot that I feel like crawling under a
rock and waiting for the moon to rise. What can I
say? This blogging thing isn't a normal activity
for coyotes anyhow.

Besides, I was thinking of long flowing locks, and
then, occasionally, thinking of Maria's deep dark
eyes -- I'm telling you, such things are enough to
keep an Ol' Coyote busy well into 2020.

Speaking of 2020, I'm already planning that new
Year's Eve celebration! I'm gonna age a large jug
of mescal and pop the cork that evening! What a
celebration! Then, I'm gonna find some beautiful,
nice young thing, and show her a good time! It was like
a hunch, actually. I think I was pretty close to achieving this
magic moment. In any event, it gave me the confidence I
need to continue to think in this fashion.

I got thinking about a woman, too, with long flowing locks.
I know this woman. She's quite tiny, but I was thinking how
nice it would be to have an affair with her. :)) Oh yes, Ol'
Coyote had his thinking cap on today!

I don't actually know where this woman lives, but I see
her occasionally. I must ponder the possibility further as it
seems like a wonderful brain exercise. In fact, such an affair
would likely do both of us a world of good!

Of course, the whole thing might be the result of extreme
desert heat. It can cause the brain to move you in weird
directions. I should find a comfortable rock, and sit in the
shade for a while. Perhaps it'll change my mind, but I doubt
it. Some things just seem right, as if it's the right thing at the
right time.

My gawd, this landscape's beautiful! When I look into the
distance, the heat makes the horizon quiver like long flowing
locks of hair. Perhaps it's got something to do with the "magic
moment" I mentioned above and with shifting consciousness?
Now that I think of it, the tiny woman could be part of a larger
event or experience. She might even be the catalyst I need to
live such magic -- now there's a charming thought!

Well, I could ramble on some more, but I really have to find
that shade. I'll catch you next time,
LaurieC ;)
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

Oh yes, those were great
days, even good enough to bring both laughter and
the odd tear to my eye.

Then, I got to thinking how things are cyclical, and
how there might yet be one more cycle of such party
times to this life time. You know, if I could be certain
of it, I think I'd go outside, find the highest hill and
howl until the sun rises tomorrow morning!

I mean, I know a lot more now, and could have one
helluva time, if such a cycle does come around
once again.

Of course, there's always the Law of Attraction! Why
the heck should I wait -- I'll simply go out there and
attract the good times . . . er, the good party times!

I hope you don't feel I'm being a bit off-beat tonight?
I'm actually just allowing the words and ideas to flow,
with just a little control on my part. Geez, it's already
2:55 in the morning, where has the time gone?

I know what I could do -- I could return to Saint John's,
Newfoundland, where a lot of my partying years happened.
It's a wonderful city, with lots of places to explore, lots
of pubs, and an unusually high number of parties
happening every weekend!

In fact, if you happen to be reading this post, and
you've never been to Newfoundland, you should plan to
visit there. The people are fantastic, the island is
unique, and, once there, you'll understand why it was
a country of its own up until 1949 when it opted to join
Canada.

Enough for tonight! Ol' Coyote's got to hit the sack,
and do some lucid dreaming . . . I know there's a
dark haired beauty waiting for me, just below my
consciousness, somewhere in the dream state:))

All the best everyone!
LaurieC
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

Bucke was
a Canadian psychiatrist who practiced in Hamilton, Ontario.

Bucke believed that human consciousness was evolving
and that as time passed, more people would realize a
greater connectedness to all things, including each other,
and to the divine forces of life. This would include a
quickening of the senses, and a realization of oneness
or cosmic consciousness.

Richard Bucke was a friend of Walt Whitman's, and
believed that Whitman had glimpsed this wonderful cosmic
realization of life. He believed that it influenced Whitman,
when he wrote his epic work, Leaves of Grass. This is
an amazing piece of writing, and certainly casts Whitman
as a man of remarkable sensitivity.

The writings of Whitman, Emerson and Bucke, all served
to help shape the closeness I feel to nature and the natural
world, today. It also helped to shape my concept of love,
because if we strive to experience this oneness of life, we
should be prepared to exercise a great deal of love toward
all things.

This is incredibly difficult, and one will certainly experience
many setbacks. I'm not talking about selfishness that often
passes as love, or about jealousy that can also pass as
love, but about unconditional love. Indeed, sometimes I
wonder whether it's possible to sustain unconditional love
over long periods of time? I like to think so, and I like to
think that even if we come close to unconditional love, we
should give ourselves and other people a pat on the back,
for the effort!

When I was in high school, I was infatuated with a girl
who lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We would write long
letters to each other on a weekly basis. Wow! I was so
excited when her letters arrived in my mail box! Anyhow,
we had long discussions about love, divine love, and I'm
sure that I wrote the word, "love," at least two dozen
times in each letter.

To this day, I'm happy that we exchanged those letters,
and shared that experience together. I'm sure that many
of you who read this blog, have had similar experiences.
Well, don't forget to think about them occasionally, and
how special they are to your life. Those are the things
that make life worth living.

I want to say more about unconditional love, in future
posts, unless, as Ol' Coyote, I decide to cope out and
write about something else. You never know when the
Coyote fragment of my personality will take over, and go
off in a totally new direction! :)

Bye for now,
LaurieC
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

Yet, she is very much of the
earth -- kind, loving, and caring.

I call this woman "Maria". It's a beautiful Latin name,
that I chose years ago. You see, back in the 1970s, I
met a sparkling South American girl from Colombia.
I've never forgotten her and we're still good friends.
Then, later, I became intrigued with the "trickster"
figure which appears in many cultures. Ol' Coyote, in
particular, caught my attention. I realized that I had
an element of Coyote in me, and that I could play the
role very well.

Later, I put Maria and Coyote together -- she's the
perfect woman for him. She's as devilish and fun as
Coyote himself! Add to this my love of the Southwest,
my fascination with the deserts of that land and in
Mexico, and you have the perfect ingredients for an
on-going tale. So, Maria became the dark eyed beauty
of the desert, as mysterious and delightful as any
character you might ever imagine.

Do you really think anyone can match this Maria of
my dreams? As time passed, I met a second woman
who charmed me as much as my Colombian friend.
Together, they practically become Maria, and even
as individuals, they approach her very closely.

So, now, when you hear me mention Ol' Coyote and
Maria, you know where I'm coming from.

All the best!
LaurieC
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

This is especially a problem among
men, although women aren't immune to it.

In many respects, women are more independent
minded, when it comes to relationships. Now, I
know I'm treading on thin ice, so to speak, and I
don't mean to imply that it always holds true. And,
too, cultural background plays a big role in this
regard.

Anyhow, let's put the debate to rest for the moment,
and focus on clinging behaviour. In some respects,
we men need to apply some anti-static to our
relationships. :)

How to begin?

Well, for one thing, communicate! I've been terrible
at this in the past. I'll be the first to admit it. I seem
to get lulled into a strange state where I don't talk
a lot. It's due partly to contentment, partly to a
satisfaction with the present state, and partly that
I appreciate silence and non-verbal communication.

On the other hand, I may have a mental probelm:))

Ask your partner her opinion in the matter. Are you
clinging? Does she have space? If she tells you that
she needs more space, then that's the opening you
need, to discuss the matter.

Decide, together, what to do about it. We all need
space, and time to do things on our own.

There are many reasons behind clinging behaviour,
including lack of self-confidence, jealously, just to
mention two things. We can get into those things
in future posts.

The main thing is to apply the anti-static, and get
the hell off your partner's coat tails! Geez, am I ever
good at this stuff! :) Now, if I can only learn to
consistently express myself this well, verbally. Wow!
The women will love me for it!

Ol' Coyote will return, shortly;)
LaurieC
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

Oh yes, I call
it my "monster manuscript," because it has taken
on a life of its own. Whenever I become involved with
the manuscript, it seems to take over a good portion
of my life and thought.

It's really quite complicated and involves a number
of characters. The manuscript is currently entitled,
Joseph's Journal: A Search for Love, Intimacy and
Passion. The title could easily change, as things
develop. At the moment, I have it stuffed away in
my attic, gathering dust.

Joseph, the chief character, has an eccentric uncle
who is quite enamoured with things erotic -- all things
erotic. It's quite interesting when they get together
for coffee, to discuss Joseph's Journal. This uncle,
by the way, is my characterization of the ideal uncle
I never had.

I'll not say anything more about the manuscript. It's
quite complex, serious, funny, and involves Ol' Coyote,
among an array of other silly, neurotic, odd, and
humourous characters.

Some time between now and next spring, I do intend
to make my way to the attic, walk carefully through
dust, spider webs, and other obstacles, to retrieve the
manuscript, and allow it to take over my life once
again. I'll let you know when it happens. Of course,
those close to me will probably know when it happens.
I do tend to take on the nature of the manuscript.

Well, so long for now, or, as Willie Nelson sings,
"on the road again".

LaurieC
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.

Isn't it true, though, that they go so well
together.

Now, I know that many of us have memories of
romance and of "making out" in the rain, whether it
was in a car, in a cabin, a tent, a bedroom, or some
really exotic or unusual location. But, wherever it was,
and whenever rain was involved, I'm sure we'll all agree
that the rain made it special.

I won't go into details, but one of Ol' Coyote's fondest
experiences in this regard, was with a woman from
Toronto. She was the only Torontonian that I've ever
dated, or, at least, remember dating. Anyhow, we
had a hot night in the rain -- in fact, it was so hot and
wild, that it took two days for the steam to clear from
my car windows! :))

Of course, there are more subtle things associating
rain and romance. When we sit listening to the rain,
our minds are easily carried away, our imagination
is stirred, and we are apt to experience a flash of
inspiration. For me, this listening to the rain, can
result in a deep loneliness, both painful and enjoyable.
Does this make sense? This has often inspired me
to do a painting, or to begin a short story.

I've only touched on this topic tonight. There is so
much more to say, in this regard. But, it's late, and
it's raining, so I really must take my tea and listen
to those wonderful rain drops.

Pleasant dreams!
Laurie Coyote
The Way of the Crow eBook at http://www.thewayofthecrow.com.
